One of my kids' favourite shows is The Cat in the Hat Knows a lot About That! so I decided to recycle some cardboard boxes to create the Thingermajigger and my nifty art skills to paint the kids as two of the show's most iconic characters... Cat in the Hat and Thing 2!
I started by getting two cardboard boxes and used the flips to assemble the smaller one to the back of on the larger box, next it was time to paint... I mixed red, yellow and orange watercoulours to get the ideal shade of orange plus to stretch the paint since the kids would be joining me and they're a lot more liberal in their application than I am.
Once the bulk of the painting was done I added twp black plates for wheels and turned my attention to the hat, I mean what's Cat in the Hat without his iconic hat? For this I used an old butter tub (large), my 3 yr old and I coloured the red stripes on two letter size papers then glued them around the container. To finish it off I made the brim of the hat, drew Cat's ears and attached them to the sides of the hat.
Next I turned my attention to creating Fish and Thing 1... I used pencil crayons and oil pastels to draw the characters then glued Fish into a bowl and Thing 1 upside-down on a tall container.
Then finally the piece de resistance... painting the little munchkins!
