The CBeebies programme Mister Maker gave me the idea of using baby wipes flaps as doors then I improved on it but adding accordion paper hearts and stars. The essentials for this project are: baby wipes flaps (duh!), plain papers, pencil crayons, oil pastels/wax crayons, black marker, scissors and your creativity.
Start by cutting and colouring paper rectangles... those will be glued to the baby wipes flap as the front of the door.
I outlined the kids names and the shape of the doormats for Israel to trace, he coloured the doormats with pencil crayons then used oil pastels to colour the floor... normal wax crayons can easily be used instead of oil pastels, just use whatever you've got at hand. I used pencil crayons for the main wall colour them accentuated it with oil pastel designs (swirls for one and diagonal lines for the other).
Now decide where you want your door to be if you hadn't before... glue the flap in place, once dried open the flap and colour the doorway black with a marker.
Next, draw the image you want to see when the flap door is opened, you can make it wider than the doorway so it can be glued overlapping the inner part of the flap for a sort of 3D effect... just make sure it's not taller because the door won't close.
This is the part I improved on by placing images in the forefront to represent myself and hubby then I opted to make my image fit safely in the doorway but glued accordion hearts and stars from the doorway to the door... so feel free to take things down a notch or bedazzle it to match your taste and craft comfort level as you create a frame worthy interactive piece of art.
