Night before last Israel begged for us to read a bedtime story, despite it being way after his bedtime, so I grabbed Bible Stories for Children and began with a short story called David, The Shepherd Boy. I had him read by himself aloud, he got to the word "priest" and asked...
Israel: What's a priest?
Me: A priest is a special person who talks to God.
Israel: Like you!
Me: Ahhhhh yes, ahhh well...
Israel: And me! But I only say "Amen" and ask God to make Tehillah feel better.
Me: Yes, but you can say other things to God whenever you're ready.
NB. Tehillah is his friend who got a small cut recently and he saw her crying.
Next, Israel read, "he would later rule the people," so I initiated...
Me: "Rule" means to be in charge...
Israel: We have two "rule" mommy!
Me: We do?
Israel: Yes! One "rule" is like when Daddy needs to learn the rules and the other "rule" is when a person is in charge of a country!
Me: lol Yes! Good boy!
Israel: High-five mommy! *snap, snap* I gave you two high-fives for the two "rules"
